No tsunami threat following 6.6 magnitude earthquake near Micronesia

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A strong earthquake has shaken an area near the Federated States of Micronesia, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The temblor was measured at 6.6 magnitude according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That was down from the initial 7.2 magnitude estimate.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, "Based on all available data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. Repeat. A destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to hawaii.
