Gamecocks open fall camp with 'decent practice'

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The moment that Gamecock fans and players have been waiting finally came.

Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks hit the practice field on Friday to open fall camp as they prepare for their season-opening game against Texas A&M.

"It was a decent practice," Spurrier told the media, " but our centers can't throw the ball back to the quarterbacks very well yet. Whoever can do it will be the starting center because, right now, both of them (Cody Waldrop and Clayton Stadnik) were a little bit erratic."

Junior running back Mike Davis was among a list of players wearing yellow jerseys and held out of practice. Others included Rory Anderson (triceps), Shaq Davidson (knee), Jacob August (foot), and Donnell Stanley (wrist) just to name a few.

Nevertheless, Spurrier thought his team had a good workout as she commended his training staff on having the team well-conditioned during the summer. Spurrier also noted his squad's "good team chemistry" as they worked through a two-hour session at the Bluff Road practice facility.

The Gamecocks will return to practice at the Bluff Road practice fields on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Practice will be open to the public.
