Boil water advisory cancelled for Lihue, Hanamaulu

LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Department of Water (DOW) has cancelled the boil water advisory for the entire Lihue and Hanama’ulu area effective immediately.

Laboratory results on the samples collected Thursday morning indicate the water is safe and free from microbial contamination. All customers in the Lihue and Hanama’ulu area now have normal water service that may be used for all water purposes.

The DOW thanks customers for their patience and understanding during this time. Immediate measures are underway to prevent future incidents.

The DOW closely monitors water quality in all water systems in order to fulfill their mission of providing safe and affordable drinking water to the people of Kauai. The boil water advisory issued Thursday served as a precautionary measure after brown water was reported in various areas of Lihue and Hanama’ulu.

The DOW and its contractors were working on waterline improvements to Hoomana Road Wednesday night. When DOW personnel turned the line back on, it disturbed the existing system and created a brown water and air mixture that was released into the neighboring service areas.

The DOW also thanks the County of Kauai and the State Health Department for their assistance in responding to this situation.
