Oahu hiker falls 700 feet to his death in Kokee

KOKEE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police have identified the hiker who died after falling from the Waimea Canyon Trail in Kokee Tuesday afternoon as Devin Goetsch, 25, of Honolulu.

According to Kauai police, the victim was hiking the trail with two friends from Maui at around 1 p.m., when Goetsch apparently lost his footing and slipped down the steep cliff.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the distress call and located the man's body at approximately 2:30 p.m., roughly 700 feet below the point where he slipped.

His body was flown to Waimea Canyon Park where awaiting Medics then transported him to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.

An autopsy is pending, however, police do not suspect foul play in the cause of Goetsch's death.

Volunteers from Life's Bridges, a non-profit grief counseling service, is assisting the victim's family.
