Man in critical condition following Kalihi pedestrian accident

KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man in his 40s is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk in Kalihi at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Honolulu police.

Police said the man was crossing the street against the red light when a 67-year-old female driver of a Toyota Echo struck him. The car had the green light.

The victim suffered head and body injuries and was transported to the Queen's Medical Center. The driver was not injured.

It is unknown if speed is a factor, but police will continue to investigate the accident.

Police closed all westbound lanes on Kamehameha Highway, between Laumaka and Middle Streets, due to the pedestrian accident.
