HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

For the second time, Genevieve has weakened to a post-tropical remnant low pressure system to the south-southeast of the state.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said at 11 a.m., Genevieve's remnants were located 535 miles south-southeast of Hilo, or 725 miles southeast of Honolulu, and were moving west at 7 miles per hour. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour with higher gusts, but was expected to continue weakening gradually during the next 48 hours.

Forecasters said there was a possibility that Genevieve could regenerate once again, but would remain well south of Hawaii.

Moisture associated with Genevieve's remnants could still bring muggy weather to the state Friday, along with an increase in windward and mauka showers. The highest chance for showers will be for the Big Island of Hawaii, which could get one to three inches of rain over the next 48 hours, most of it on Friday afternoon. Smaller islands could see an uptick in showers early Saturday morning.

Storms like Genevieve are erratic, so we will continue to monitor its development.
