UH coaches will have to wait for new deals to be signed
With Apple's impending departure, three coaches wait for their new contracts to be signed
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The University of Hawaii athletics department already faces several issues, but now, with Tom Apple's impending future as chancellor in flux, it appears three coaches will have to wait for their new deals.
Hawaii News Now recently learned the pending contracts for Rainbow Warriors basketball coach Gib Arnold, Rainbow Wahine basketball coach Laura Beeman and baseball coach Mike Trapasso are currently awaiting approval from Apple.
Altogether, the deals total $55,000 in raises.
Since UH hasn't officially removed Apple as chancellor, sources told HNN on Monday that he could still sign off on the deals.
Also, when Apple is officially removed, his replacement would have the power to approve them.
It's not known if an interim chancellor could nullify the contracts entirely.
Athletics director Ben Jay has refused comment on the effect Apple's removal would have on the department.
