The Apple effect: What limbo status means for coaches contracts
Apple's limbo status as chancellor also puts three contracts up in the air
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
There's no doubt that any substantial moves made on upper campus will indeed spread across the street to the athletics department.
Tom Apple's status as chancellor in limbo also means that contracts for three high-profile coaches are up in the air.
Earlier this week, Hawaii News Now learned that deals for Rainbow Warriors basketball coach Gib Arnold, Rainbow Wahine basketball coach Laura Beeman and Rainbow Warriors baseball coach Mike Trapasso were awaiting approval.
Combined, the new contracts will see a $55,000 raise and Apple was the one set to sign off on the deals.
As of now, the university has yet to officially remove Apple as chancellor.
When he is, it's not yet known what will become of the pending deals.
Athletics director Ben Jay told HNN Sunday afternoon he wouldn't comment on the situation.
