HONOLULU (AP) - Crews in Hawaii are working on repairing a road damaged by a sinkhole that has clogged traffic.
reports the sinkhole appeared July 11 in Kailua, a town on Oahu.
Honolulu officials are aiming to reopen Kailua-bound lanes that have been closed for nearly two weeks.
Crews have been working to lay new pipe to replace the corroded concrete sewer pipe that created the sinkhole.
On Wednesday afternoon, crews began filling the 20-foot deep hole.
Mark Yonamine, the city deputy director of design and construction, says crews still need to coat about 200 feet of sewer pipe with a protective resin lining to prevent further ruptures.
