Hawaii gymnasts soar in national competition

LOUISVILLE, KY (HawaiiNewsNow) - By Jon Rombaoa

A group of six young gymnasts representing Hawaii competed at the USA Gymnastics Championships earlier this month from July 16-19 in Louisville, KY and scored high among thousands of gymnasts across the country.

Maia Amano from Noelani Elementary (11), Jasmine Eusataquio from Moanalua Middle (13) Kayttie Nakamura from Kaimuki Middle (12), Alexander Paul from Moanalua Elementary (12), and Julia Wilson from Aiea High (15) all compete for the Hawaii Trampoline and Tumbling Club and train at Hawaii Academy in Kalihi.

The competition focused on the Trampoline, Rhythmic and Acrobatic disciplines in USA Gymnastics at levels 8, 9 ,10, youth elite, junior elite, open elite and senior elite.  The local gymnasts participated in two of four competitive events including individual trampoline and double mini-trampoline.

From highest to lowest skill divisions, the results are listed below:

Sydney Senter – Double Mini Trampoline Youth Elite (11-13 yrs) 3rd Place; Individual Trampoline Youth Elite (11-13 yrs) 13th Place. Alexander Paul -- Double Mini Trampoline Level 10 (11-12 yrs) 1st Place (National Champion); Individual Trampoline Youth Elite (11-13 yrs) 8th Place.

Alexander also represented Region 2 (California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Hawaii) as the regional champion in the regional all-star competition and placed 1st in his age division on Double Mini Trampoline.

Kayttie Nakamura - Double Mini Trampoline Level 10 (11-12 yrs) 2nd Place; Individual Trampoline Youth Elite (11-13 yrs) 4th Place.

Julia Wilson – Double Mini Trampoline Level 10 (15-16 yrs) 11th Place; Individual Trampoline Level 10 (15-16 yrs) 12th Place.

Maia Amano – Double Mini Trampoline Level 9 (11-12 yrs) 2nd Place.

Jasmine Eustaquio – Double Mini Trampoline Level 8 (13-14yrs) 24th Place; Individual Trampoline Level 9 (13-14 yrs) 11th Place.
