Search for missing couple called off, 27-year-old man arrested

Hours after asking for the public's help in locating a man and a woman who went missing, Honolulu police have arrested an Oahu man on suspicion of kidnapping and attempted murder. 

Matthew Bright, 27, was arrested Sunday at approximately 6:35 p.m. The woman he was believed to have been last seen with, 26-year-old Laura Layugan, was reportedly found safe. 

Bright remains in police custody while officers continue to investigate the case.

Honolulu police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a male and female who were last seen Sunday morning in the downtown Honolulu area. 

Police say that the two were involved in a domestic incident.

Matthew Bright, 27, is described as 5'9", weighs 155 lbs. and has brown hair and brown eyes. Laura Layugan, 26, is described as 5'2", 100 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

Officials say the couple may be driving a silver 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV with a North Dakota license plate JXS 981.

Anyone who sees the couple or vehicle should call 911.
