Several area teams competed in a 7-on-7 tournament at Sherwood Christian Academy Saturday. Tift Area, Terrell & Brookwood Academies joined the Eagles along with others in the tourney. The tournament also featured several offensive linemen drills.

The Eagles are taking this off-season seriously, hoping to break their playoff drought. Last year, the squad finished 2-9 and hasn't made it to the postseason since 2000.

""It's really providing a lot of motivation to the guys," said head coach Otis Covington. "To have a chance now to move on and get into that playoff excitement that goes on in the end of the year and have a chance to do something that hasn't really been done in two years."

Brookwood Academy, on the other hand, is looking to expand their playoff fortunes. The team was eliminated in the second round of play last year by eventual champion Memorial Day.

This upcoming season, the team hopes to find more balance in its attack. Last year, the team accumulated over 3,000 yards rushing the ball. Saturday's 7-on-7 play allows the team to develop its aerial attack.

"That's the most misunderstood thing about these tournaments," said Brookwood Head Coach Shane Boggs. "The better you can become passing the ball, the less defenders there is going to be in the box on Friday night ... The idea would be to attack numbers, if you can throw the ball really well, you may see six men boxes, if you can't throw it you may see 8 or 9."

The Warriors begin their season August 29 in Florida against Bell High School.
