Former Heisman winner Ward chimes in on Jameis Winston

Former Florida State star Charlie Ward returned to Thomasville on Friday.

Following the Seminoles national title run, many have wondered where Jameis Winston would fall in the ranking of FSU quarterbacks. Ward, Winston and Chris Weinke were the only 3 to earn the Heisman trophy. Ward conceded on Friday.

"Well, he was [better] because he didn't lose any games," Ward said. "They put together a very good year, a very special year and it was kind of out of nowhere because of Jameis and his improvement. As he improved, the team improved and they had the confidence."

Ward said that with the target on their backs and a tougher competition within the conference, their run to the national title won't be as easy.

"They had a very good schedule that worked out in their favor," Ward said. "This year will be a little bit tough."

Ward will be spending a lot more time in the Southeast region of the country after spending the last seven year's coaching in Houston, Texas at Westbury Christian High School. He will coach the football team at Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida starting this fall. The team finished 3-7 last year and he is ready to turn their fortunes around.

"I'm at a good school, very good kid and coaches and good community," Ward said. "So definitely looking forward to seeing how we could better than what they have had it in the past."

Ward wouldn't rule out playing Southwest Georgia teams in the future with his teams improvement
