VSU promotes Walker to defensive coordinator

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta State Blazers have a new defensive coordinator.

Bubba Walker has been promoted to the position, head coach David Dean announced Thursday.

Walker has served as the Blazers' linebackers coach since 2011, and has been on the VSU staff since 2010.

He will take over for Seth Wallace, who took a job on the Iowa Hawkeyes coaching staff last month.

"Having already gone through Spring practice, it was important to our team to fill the position that would keep the same terminology and philosophy as we prepare for the new season," Dean says in a press release. "Our players know and respect Coach Walker. They know how hard he works and how detailed he is in his preparations. It was just a natural fit for us for Bubba to take over the offense and continue the tradition of the Black Swarm."

Dean will now turn his attention to filling the position Walker leaves behind. The Blazers expect to make a hire in the coming weeks.
