Flood Advisory expires for Big Island

The flood advisory that was issued for the Big Island has expired.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. At about 5 a.m., the radar showed heavy rain near Papaikou, about 7 miles northwest of Hilo. The Honolii Stream and Wailuku River gages showed water levels continuing to rise several feet above the normal level.

Other locations in the advisory include Hilo, Pepeekeo, Ookala, Laupahoehoe, Honomu and Hakalau.

NWS advises staying away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
