HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The inaugural Hilo Triathlon was held on Sunday, July 13 and had a turnout of 285 athletes.
Competitors showed up as early as 5 a.m. for run and gear check-ins at James Kealoha Park. Two hours later, the race started with a 1.5-kilometer swim, followed by a 40-kilometer bike, and ending with a 10-kilometer run. Each leg started and ended at James Kealoha Beach Park, with the bike leg headed north of Hilo and the run leg through Keaukaha.
The rain did not deter supporters from congratulating and cheering on the athletes as they crossed the finish line. The overall results are as follows:
