Report: Mom asked men to smash window to get kids out of hot car
Surveillance video of a mom with her kids disputed a report that she locked them inside a hot car at a strip mall. Cellphone video showed two men smash a window to get the kids out. (Source: KTRK/CNN)
KATY, TX (KTRK/KHOU/CNN) - The story has become clearer behind video of children saved from a hot car by someone who smashed a window to get them out.
People at a strip mall rushed to help Monday when they saw the kids in the Jeep. The mother said she accidentally locked them in the car along with the keys and acted immediately to get them out, according to KTRK.
The two people in the video hitting the window with a hammer reportedly did so at the mother's request, and she was the one who climbed into the SUV.
The mother does not face charges, and the kids were reported to be OK. Surveillance video taken from nearby appeared to confirm her story, showing the mom with her children inside a store together.
This conflicted with a report Tuesday by KHOU. Witnesses said then the mother had left the children in the Jeep while she was in a hair salon and later pleaded with the people at the scene not to call the police.
The mom said she was horrified because she called the insurance company to get a wrecker and the representative said it would take two hours for someone to get there and unlock the vehicle.
