Woman escapes from burning home in Kalihi

KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 67-year-old woman is recovering from numerous burn injuries after she escaped from her burning home in Kalihi early Sunday morning.

Officials say the fire happened in a single-story home on 1220 Kaauwai Place shortly before 12:30 a.m. 

Crews arrived on scene shortly before 1 a.m. and saw light smoke coming from the house. Firefighters made entry into the structure and saw that the fire was contained to the living room area.

According to HFD, the fire was under control shortly after 1 a.m., and extinguished at 1:17 a.m. 

The woman suffered burn marks to her left arm, left shoulder and face. Emergency Medical Services transported the woman to Straub Hospital for treatment. 

Damages to the structure and its contents are estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
