Maui police search for MCCC escapee

WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui police are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Maui Community Correctional Center on Saturday around 9:40 p.m.

Officials say Junior Jorju was discovered missing at the 9:30 p.m. headcount. A facility lock down was called, and a search of the interior and exterior of the facility was conducted. MPD was immediately notified.

According to MPD, 40-year-old Jorju is a sentenced misdemeanant. Officials say he was considered "community custody", which is the lowest risk level. His sentence started on July 7, 2014, and was supposed to end on July 20, 2014. Jorju was serving 14 days for driving without a license and criminal contempt of court.

Jorju is described as 5'4" tall and weighs 135 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

It is not known at this time how he escaped. The incident remains under investigation. If you see Junior Jorju, do not approach him. Please call 911 and report the sighting.
