HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The brand-new Honolulu Walmart on Fort Street Mall will remain closed until Sunday after a technical problem forced shoppers away from the store at around 11 a.m. Saturday.
Walmart officials did not go into detail about what the actual problem was. However, shoppers said it was because of an issue with the store's plumbing system.
Some were disappointed about the closure. Shopper Chimat Enga was among some of those upset shoppers.
"Frustrating because they say four hours from now, and by that time we need to go home already," said Enga.
Many were turned away from the store but not all were frustrated. Another shopper, Tom Smyth, explained how he was not missing out on much and would simply just try again later.
"Well, it'll be open again. We didn't have it last week, so I won't miss it. I'll go to Longs to get a couple of things I was gonna do there," Smyth said.
The new Walmart was tentatively scheduled to re-open at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, but the retailer has confirmed that the location will remain closed for the rest of the night. It is scheduled to re-open on Sunday.
The Walmart officially opened at the location of the former Macy's on Wednesday.
