KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 26-year-old Aiea man is dead after the motorcycle he was operating collided into another motorcyclist on Likelike Highway early Saturday morning.
Officials say the accident happened on the Likelike on-ramp to the H-3 Freeway in Kaneohe at 3:21 a.m.
Investigators said the man suffered major head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist, a 22-year-old Honolulu man, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Witnesses told Honolulu police that the two motorcyclists were in a pack of motorcycles traveling on Likelike Highway to the H-3 onramp westbound when they collided, slid onto the pavement and then hit a metal guardrail.
The man who died was operating a 2014 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle, police said. The injured motorcyclist was on a 2007 Suzuki GSXR. Both men were wearing helmets.
Investigators said speed was a possible factor in the crash. Police are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
The death is Oahu's 35th traffic fatality, the same number from a year ago.
