HONOKAA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honokaa man was killed on Wednesday July 9 while he was working on a van.
At 4:10 p.m., Honokaa patrol officers responded to the home of Thomas Jones where he was found unresponsive.
Fire/rescue personnel removed Jones from underneath the van and took him to Hilo Medical Center where he was officially pronounced dead at 9:04 p.m.
Police reports say Jones was underneath the jacked-up van before it collapsed on him. An autopsy on Friday morning determined Jones suffered from asphyxiation due to traumatic chest compression.
