HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake has shaken an area near Japan, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The temblor was measured at a preliminary magnitude 6.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered off the east coast of Honshu, Japan.
The earthquake happened at 9:30 a.m. HST.
