Big Island health care executive resigning

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - The head of the state public hospital system's East Hawaii region is resigning to take a job in North Carolina.

The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation's East Hawaii Regional Board said Thursday Howard Ainsley's resignation will be effective on Aug. 9.

He's joining Novant Health System to be CEO of Morehead Memorial Hospital.

Regional Board CEO Gary Yoshiyama says the region will continue to focus on providing patient-centered, culturally competent and cost effective care.

Hawaii Health Systems is the nation's fourth largest public hospital system.
