Man shot outside Donelson home

A homeowner was shot early Wednesday morning outside his home after he confronted a man sitting in his vehicle in his driveway.

The homeowner was leaving home on Maplecrest Drive in Donelson about 3:30 a.m. when he saw the suspect rummaging in his truck in his driveway.

The homeowner confronted him. The suspect said he was looking for loose change.

When the homeowner told him to get out of the truck, police said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man once in the mid section, then jumped on a bike and took off.

Police believe the suspect is still in the area and asks residents to watch for him, but they say residents shouldn't panic.

"This is an isolated incident," said Metro police Capt. Jason Starling. "We have some pretty good information and good leads regarding what he looks like, and we are pursuing an active track, so I wouldn't be overly concerned."

The suspect is described as a white male, mid to late 30s. He has long hair with a thin build and looks scruffy with a camo hat and dark bike. Police believe he may be a homeless man who frequents the area.

The homeowner was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
