KAHUKU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Traffic on Kamehameha Highway is being contraflowed in front of Malaekahana State Park due to a vehicle accident on Tuesday that knocked down utility poles, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police said a 26-year-old male driver of a Nissan Versa had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel and slammed into a utility pole, knocking over a second pole, at around 1:30 a.m. The driver was reported to be in good condition and had refused medical treatment at the scene.
The Hawaiian Electric Company said the downed utility poles did not cause any service disruptions.
