The 52nd annual Hawaii State Farm Fair, sponsored by the Hawaii Farm Bureau in partnership with the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture will be held at Kualoa Ranch on July 12, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and July 13, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event is free to children and students with a valid student ID and just $5.00 for the general public. Adults can also receive $1.00 off admission by showing a Foodland Maika'i Perks card at the ticket counter.
Everyone will enjoy the beauty of Kualoa Ranch and experience a fun-filled day on the farm. In addition to seeing the live animals in the 4H Livestock Tent, children will enjoy getting to learn more about farming thorough a new interactive experience called Keiki Farm Hands.
Keiki Farm Hands will teach children more about the different aspects of farming. There will be a seedling ID game, a cow (fake) to milk, a chick hatchery, live Honey Bee display, kid's sized farming tools and fishing. The first 500 kids also receive a complimentary farm animal visor.
On Saturday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m. the winner of Napoleon Bakery's "Best Local pie contest will be selected from three finalists. The entrant's were challenged with baking an original pie that incorporated the use of local ingredients and worthy of a blue ribbon.
The first place winner will receive a blue ribbon, $500 and $200 money coupon from Napoleon's Bakery. The first runner-up will receive $200 and $100 money coupon from Napoleon's Bakery. The second runner up will receive $100 and $50 money coupon.
As in the past, fairgoers will enjoy numerous educational exhibits at the Department of Agriculture "Buy Local, It Matters" Educational Pavilion. The Kamehameha School Country Market will have some of the freshest locally grown produce along with one of the largest and most diverse plant sales on the island.
And there will be lots of entertainment at Geico's main stage. See performances by Kapena and Frank Delima, Watermelon and chili pepper eating contests and more. There will also be food provided by a variety of vendors including Kualoa Ranch who will again feature its famous grass-fed beef burgers and chili, as well as their locally raised shrimp.
