Dr. Chandana Watagodakumburas new book meant to spur an education-based social revolution.

MELBOURNE, Australia (PRWEB) July 07, 2014

After graduating high school, Dr. Chandana Watagodakumburas eyes were opened to the vast limitations of our current education system and how the skills and abilities of individuals were not being recognized appropriately. While some students were labeled with a learning disability, the reality was that they simply did not have the motivation to study - it had nothing to do with their aptitude to learn.

In Dr. Watagodakumburas new book, Education from a Deeper and Multidisciplinary Perspective, his goal is to raise awareness about a better form of education that will help us achieve a more successful society.

My main hobby is reading extensively in diverse areas, mostly in education-related areas, Dr. Watagodakumbura said. My curious mind moves on searching related material, giving me the opportunity to create new insights. This helped me to identify possible solutions to some of our education and social problems.

According to Dr. Watagodakumbura, teachers should take a multidisciplinary approach to education by using insights from a number of disciplines such as psychology, neurology and neuroscience. Instead of focusing education on a students future employment or career path, each child will be identified by their individual psychological and neurological traits and sent through a specialized learning plan.

Such an authentic education system has the promise of providing solutions to some of our long-standing social problems such as high crime rates, drug and alcohol misuse, mental illnesses, poverty, issues related to industrialization and neglect of gifted, creative and sensitive individuals, Dr. Watagodakumbura said. This will essentially pave the way for a more sustainable social development.
