BJ Penn lost to Frankie Edgar (17-4-1) by TKO in the Ultimate Fighter finale Sunday night.
With Penn battered, bloodied and on his back, Edgar mounted Penn and delivered blow after blow until referee Herb Dean stopped the fight with 4:16 remaining in the third round.
During his post fight interview, Penn hinted that it was time to retire,
"Frankie did a great job. I shouldn't have came back and I shouldn't have been in the ring tonight," said Penn.
"Dana (White) said it was over. I gotta agree with him at this point. I'm glad I got to take the chance. I started fighting. My father told me when I was a little kid everytime I got hurt he said, think past the pain. Here I am still until today."
Penn's career record falls to 16-10-2.
