Two in custody in Makiki murder case

MAKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man is dead after allegedly threatening people inside a Makiki home. Police arrested two men in connection with the killing.

Investigators said a man in his 30s went to a house on Metcalf Street at about 4 a.m. on Sunday.

"He went inside and threatened some people with a dangerous instrument. Bystanders came to help. They detained him," said Lt. Walter Calistro of the Honolulu Police Department.

Calistro said the bystanders then called police.

"Upon police arrival, the victim was unresponsive. They gave him CPR and he was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead," Calistro said.

Officers arrested Brendan McDaniels, 26, of Kauai and Tyler Uta, 18, of Palolo for second-degree murder. Investigators said the victim and the suspects were friends.
