Child's body recovered from Spotsylvania pond

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) -

A make shift memorial is now growing near the area where the body of a 7-year-old Spotsylvania girl was recovered from a pond.

Deputies tell us at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday deputies responded to a missing child call at the club house and lake, located in the Lake Wilderness Two Subdivision. The family of the missing 7 year old girl had been searching the area for about a half hour, when they called the 911.

Upon arrival, deputies learned the child was last seen in or near the water, near the sandy beach, shortly before she disappeared.  After a search of the water, around the beach area of the community club house, the body of the 7 year old girl was discovered by Fire Department Divers at 10:20 p.m. Friday.

The remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond.  Detectives from the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to conduct the death investigation.  The identity of the victim in this case is not being released until the family is notified.
