No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.7 quake near Papua New Guinea

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake has shaken an area near Papua New Guinea, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The earthquake was measured at a preliminary magnitude of 6.7, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened around 5:00 a.m. Friday HST.
