Housemate charged in Big Island shooting

CAPTAIN COOK, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A victim is in critical condition and his housemate has been charged for attempted murder after a shooting on Mamalahoa Highway in South Kona on Thursday.

Big Island police arrived to a rental house in Honaunau where they found a 52-year-old tenant with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Another tenant of the house, 44-year-old Monte Moreau of Honaunau, was arrested Thursday for attempted murder.

Police said the two individuals were housemates who broke out into an argument which resulted in the shooting shortly before 7 p.m. The victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he underwent surgery.
