BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's been almost 18 months since BJ Penn stepped in the octagon for a fight. But this weekend, the Big Island native will return to the spotlight.
Penn is slated to face off against Frankie Edgar in The Ulimate Fighter 19 Finale.
However, if he can't pull out the victory, the fight could be the end of Penn's career.
UFC President Dana White laid out a possible scenario regarding Penn's future.
"This is BJ Penn's last fight possibly. If he wins, we'll see what he does from there. But if he loses, I will actually push for him to retire," said White.
"BJ is a legend in this sport. He's been around forever and accomplished so many things. I keep questioning him, why does he want to keep fighting, Why? Because that's who BJ Penn is."
The two-time champ last appeared against Rory MacDonald in December of 2012.
Although Penn's overall record currently stands at 16-9-2, four of his last six fights ended in losses.
The TUF Finale is Sunday in Las Vegas.
