WAILUA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -  An apparent landslide at Mount Waialeale has caused turbid waters at the Wailua River as well as the possibility of dead animals, according to the Clean Water Branch of the state Department of Health.

CWB had been notified of the murky waters on Wednesday by Surfrider Kauai Chapter, yet there was very little rain in the area. After determining the landslide as the cause, CWB issued a biological assessment for Wailua River and the river mouth of Wailua Bay.

CWB urges the public to stay out of these areas due to possible dead animals, fecal matter, broken trees, debris, overflowing cesspools, herbicide and pesticides.
