HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. -

Police say an employee of a McDonald's in Holly Spring was kidnapped from her home early Wednesday morning and forced to return to the restaurant so the suspect could rob it.

Holly Springs police said the woman, whose name is being withheld, was kidnapped from her Raleigh home around 12:30 a.m. The suspect forced the woman into her car and told her to return to the McDonald's where she worked so that he could rob the restaurant.

When they arrived at the restaurant, police said the man got out of the vehicle, which gave the woman the opportunity to drive away.

While attempting to escape, the man shot at the vehicle and the woman sustained a non life-threatening injury. She was able to drive herself to a hospital where she was treated.

A typically quiet town, residents were shocked to hear about the kidnapping and shooting.

"Holly Springs is so safe and it's suburbia," Holly Spring resident Morgana Gilbert said. Gilbert said she grew up in Holly Springs and would have never imagined "something like that would happen here."

Easton DeCourcy added, "It's weird because we live like a mile away from here. ... And who knows where he is right now, what he’s doing. It’s just scary to think."

Police said the suspect is described as a short, thin black man wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, black gloves, dark pants and a dark cover over his face.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Mike Stone with the Holly Springs Police Department at (919) 567-4708.
