HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The music of Hawaii-born superstar Bruno Mars is playing an important role in the rehabilitation of an 11-year-old girl in Ohio.

Zumya Thorpe's mother and two sisters were killed in a car accident after they were rear-ended by a drunk driver last year. Zumyah survived, but suffered severe brain damage and an injury so traumatic that surgeons were forced to remove a portion of her skull.

Throughout her recovery, nurses played hit songs by Bruno Mars for her every night. They say music helped heal her, and it's miraculous that she can remember every word to every song.

Bruno Mars learned of Zumyah through social media, and at his sold out concert over the weekend, he sang 'Just the Way You Are' as she hugged him closely.
