KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui drivers are testing a first-of-its kind traffic signal in Hawaii starting Monday.
A flashing yellow traffic arrow was installed at the corner of West Kamehameha Avenue and Kane Street in Kahului.
County officials put together a video explaining what drivers should do when they see this new traffic signal.
"A flashing yellow arrow means left turns are permitted, but drivers must first yield to oncoming traffic or crossing pedestrians before making a left turn," the video says. "keep in mind that oncoming traffic has the green light. So remember, flashing yellow means turn with caution."
Similar lights will eventually be used statewide, officials say.
