HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

An OCCC escapee and convicted sex offender Allan Abihai was captured at 6 p.m. Sunday by sheriff deputies at an apartment building on Kinau St.

Officials said the manhunt was a joint effort by the state sheriffs and the U.S. Marshals task force and went smoothly without incident.

Abihai who has a long rap sheet including convictions for sex assault and attempted murder, walked away from the OCCC work furlough program on June 10. He had been in hiding ever since.

This is the second time that Abihai has walked away. Back in 2006, he spent two months on the run after walking away from the Laumaka work furlough center.

The 52-year-old served his minimum term and was released on parole in 2009 but was back in custody for violating his parole.

Abihai is serving prison terms for convictions that include attempted murder, rape and kidnapping.

He is being booked for escape, and will be returned to OCCC.
