MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian monk seal "RL06," who had to be moved away from the coastal waters of Maui because of her aggressive behavior towards humans, has arrived at her new home.
Crews dropped off the two-year-old monk seal at Laysan Island in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands on Saturday.
Researchers will continue to monitor her to see how she is socializing with other seals in her new environment.
At last check, officials said she had a new "boyfriend."
For more than a year, scientists have heard about her encounters with people off west Maui, but her actions had escalated to become more aggressive.
Researchers decided to move "RL06" to the remote area after she had bitten and grabbed swimmers off Maui.
Scientists want to remind people to report any seal interactions immediately. The phone number to call is (808) 220-7802.
