HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 26-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering a homeless man under an H-1 freeway viaduct last year.
Herwin Magbulos was charged with killing 59-year-old Darrlye Wong at a homeless camp, but he claimed self defense.
Defense lawyer Edward Aquino says Magbulos gave Wong money to buy drugs, and when Magbulos asked for the drugs, Wong tried to hit and choke Magbulos.
Aquino said Magbulos stabbed Wong with a knife he found on the ground and a smaller one that he was carrying.
Prosecutor Kaina Awong says Magbulos went to the homeless encampment to kill Wong. He says Wong was stabbed in the abdomen and back and had defensive wounds.
The jury reached its verdict Friday after an hour of deliberation. Judge Del Rosario will sentence Magbulos to life with the possibility of parole.
