TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

IKEA and the Arizona Humane Society are teaming up to increase awareness of homeless animals as the Scandinavian home furnishings store showcases some of the shelter's pets in its showrooms.

The idea began with Singapore IKEA, and the Tempe store becomes the first in the U.S. to offer such a program, according to a Humane Society news release.

A life-size cutout of three Arizona Humane Society dogs, one puppy and two kittens are displayed in various showrooms throughout the store, according to the release. They will remain in the showrooms throughout the summer.

Each cutout features a quick response (QR) code that will take people right to the Arizona Human Society's adoptable pet pages, according to the release.

The shelter's Waggin' Wheels mobile pet adoption unit will offer adoptions at IKEA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tempe IKEA retail outlet, 2110 W. IKEA Way.
