Feds: Men were turning $1 bills into $100 bills and went shopping

Nathan Niihau and Remmington Francis allegedly bought a $600 Movado watch and expensive cologne from the Ross Dress for Less store in Waikiki.  The problem, according to court documents, the money was counterfeit.

A federal indictment reports, last November, Niihau removed the ink from the $1 bills using concrete cleaner, then used a laser printer to make them into $100 bills.

Niihau allegedly shared the counterfeit cash with Francis and the funny money was used to buy the items which would then be returned at a different Ross store for cash.

The men are charged with conspiracy to make, use and possess counterfeit currency.

The indictment doesn't detail how the men were caught but there was a third person involved, who has not been charged with any crimes.
