Abercrombie, Ige meet in Democratic gov debate

HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie is meeting state Sen. David Ige in a Democratic primary debate as both candidates campaign to be Hawaii's governor.

The candidates were scheduled to meet Tuesday at a lunchtime forum at the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber officials say the candidates will talk about the state's economy, the cost of living, education and other issues as they discuss their views.

Ige is hoping to stop Abercrombie from earning a second term.

The debate comes as two other candidates outside the party are expected to be part of the race in November. Republican James "Duke" Aiona, a previous lieutenant governor who lost handily to Abercrombie in 2010, is running again. And former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is running as a member of the Independent Party.
