HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency response crews on the North Shore of Oahu have recovered the body of a man who went missing while diving near Kaena Point on Saturday, his family confirms to Hawaii News Now.
Rescue crews, including personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard, had been searching for 54-year-old Nicholas Spotkaeff since roughly 1 p.m. on Saturday, when he was last seen spearfishing with his son about 50 yards offshore from Kaena Point.
On Monday morning, rescuers continued operations in an effort to locate the man. His body is believed to have been discovered at around 8:30 a.m.
Witnesses at the Haleiwa Boat Ramp said that the members of Spotkaeff's family who had gathered there were very emotional as they confirmed that the body found by rescuers was that of the 54-year-old.
