(PRWEB) June 23, 2014

Tariq Drabu is a Manchester born and educated dentist and specialist oral surgeon. Dr Drabu was one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the UK and completed his Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, after working in busy dental hospitals in the UK and Saudi Arabia. Dr Drabu is the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice and is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale. He also finds time in his busy schedule to tutor and mentor postgraduate dentists in oral surgery at UCLAN Dental Clinic in Preston.

Tariq Drabu was speaking about a recently published article in the Denistry website on the half a million pounds given to Plymouth University to investigate cancer. The full article can be read here.

Tariq Drabu said It is welcome news that the Plymouth University in Devon has received great funding to investigate cell defects that could contribute towards cancer. This type of research could be ground-breaking, maybe even becoming a drug therapy treatment that could put a stop to this disease.

Tariq Drabu went on to say Dr Bing Hu, an associate professor in Oral and Dental Health Research at Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry will be leading the team over the next three years. The aim is to investigate PCP, planar cell polarity, which is an important cellular mechanism that manages the development of cells and tissues. Determining how this mechanism works can lead to great cancer success stories in the future.

Tariq Drabu closed in saying Oral cancer is constantly rising and its great news that researchers are working on solutions for this disease. There are so many different treatments available, many of which are only useful in the very early stages. The problem is that most patients dont realise they have a problem until they start experiencing pain, which is why I am always educating my patients on the importance of regular routine dental visits. Regular dental visits can help dental professionals catch problems, such as cancer, early and this can improve the overall results of any cancer treatments received.
