HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Hawaii COPD Coalition (HiCOPD) was formed in 2007 to provide services and improve treatment for the more than 46,000 (4.4 percent) of Hawaii adults diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and related disorders.
HiCOPD also serve patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and others. An equal or greater number of Hawaii adults remain undiagnosed. COPD is the third leading cause of death and second leading cause of disability in the United States, and Hawaii COPD Coalition is the only organization devoted to improved care and treatment of COPD in Hawaii.
Monthly support groups, legislative advocacy and an informative website and resources for patients, caregivers, healthcare providers and policy makers as well as an annual education day are some of the services provided by Hawaii COPD Coalition at hawaiicopd.org.
