HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii State Science Olympiad is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of science, technology, engineering, and math education for K-12 students throughout the State of Hawaii.

Science Olympiad provides professional development to teachers, parents, and administrators and provides students in public, private, charter, and home schools the opportunity to be engaged, challenged, and inspired in a wide range of science fields.

Science Olympiad's main purposes are to bring science to life, to show how science works, to emphasize problem solving aspects of science, develop teamwork and cooperative learning strategies, to promote high levels of achievement and commitment to excellence, to demonstrate that students in Hawaii can perform at levels that surpass expectations of practicing scientists and engineers, and to attract more students to professional and technical careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
