Prayers on Wings started in 2011, working with critically ill children and their families to improve communication during crisis using a simple rubber ducky. The organization is the mission of founder Devin Nakasone, a childhood leukemia survivor, whose own lack of communication during his health crisis resulted in serious emotional challenges that he encountered growing into young adulthood.
Since 2011, Prayers on Wings has expanded to working not only with critically ill children and their families, but at-risk youth, handicapped children, underprivileged children, people dealing with addiction, bereaved families, and any others going through crisis. Rubber ducky workshops are done in group settings or one-on-one. The focus is on improving communication through awareness, using a fun arts and crafts project to open the hearts and minds of the participants. This year, Prayers on Wings plans to launch their Circle of InsPOWration program, providing inspiration and mentorship to at-risk and underprivileged youth, through motivational workshops and live streaming of interviews with community leaders.
Prayers on Wings is a 501c3 public charity and relies on public donation to support their workshops so that they remain free of charge to the community.
