LSUS basketball adds D-I signee to roster

Shreveport, LA (LSUS Sports Information) -

The LSU Shreveport Pilots head coach Kyle Blankenship has announced that Keith Coleman, a 6-10 forward out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will transfer from North Texas to wear the Pilots' uniform for his last year of eligibility.

"Keith is an essential piece to our recruiting class that we were actively looking for," said Coach Blankenship.  "We wanted to add some size at all positions, and we are excited about what he will bring to the table here at LSUS."

Coleman will provide the Pilots as a force under the basket as he finished second on North Texas' team with 27 blocks last season including four in the Conference-USA Tournament. He also provides some offense as he gathered his first double-double on the road at Oklahoma pouring in 14 points while pulling down 10 rebounds on November 11, 2013.

Throughout his two-year career at North Texas, Coleman played in 59 games while grabbing 147 total rebounds accompanied with 38 blocks.

"He is an outstanding athlete who can run and jump very well for his size.  He will fit into our system perfectly, and we believe will make a huge impact on both ends of the floor for us," added Coach Blankenship.

Before his arrival at North Texas he originally signed with Nebraska after playing one season at Marshalltown Community College in Iowa. He was rated by Hot100Hoops.com as one of the nation's top-25 junior college players. Coleman racked up averages of 8.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for Marshalltown (Iowa) CC. He shot 57.1 percent from the floor on the year and was named Honorable Mention All-Region XI.

Coleman is a graduate of Lee (Maine) Academy where he played his high school hoops and was rated as the No. 23 center in the country by Scout.com and No. 37 by ESPN.com and listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.

The Pilots will first take the floor for the 2014-15 season on Tuesday, November 4th, against a former conference foe (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) Southern University of New Orleans.
